VVR Raj Satyen, the AIADMK candidate, was facing the heat after he was seen violating the model code of conduct during his campaigning.
When the electoral authorities were conducting polling for the police personnel through postal ballots at Sri Meenakshi Government Arts College for Women on Wednesday, the AIADMK candidate Satyen all of a sudden entered the polling area, where some police personnel assembled to cast their votes. He shook their hands and sought their support in the booth.
The Flying Squad team personnel of Madurai South Zone after witnessing Satyen canvassing for votes at around 9.40 am there took up the matter to Sellur Police, where they filed a case of violating the model code of conduct.
Sources said normally campaigning should not be entertained within two hundred meters from the polling area. A total of 2,815 police personnel gathered at the location to exercise their democratic rights when the contestant clad in white shirt and dhoti along with party shawl came there. He was instructed to leave the polling area.
The AIADMK candidate being a debutant and son of VV Rajan Chellappa, sitting MLA from Madurai North and former Mayor of Madurai Corporation, is pitted against Su Venkatesan of CPM, an ally of DMK, in this Lok Sabha constituency.
