Acknowledging the EC’s action, MNM president Kamal Haasan, in a tweet, said that his party respects the election rules but asked the constitutional body to monitor those in power.
“Muting certain words as advised. The MNM respects the code of conduct. But don’t restrict our words to campaign time alone. Monitor the conduct of those in power. Muting one voice will lead to listening to more such voices. My people will understand me,” Kamal tweeted. In another tweet, the actor-politician said that even if his party comes to power, it would continue to respect the code. “We will continue to allow the Election Commission to function independently. Now those in power does not have such qualities. I wish they go soon,” he wrote. The EC on Sunday banned the telecast of three advertisements of the AIADMK targeting the DMK on the grounds that they violated the model code.
