Two police personnel attempt suicide

A 42-year-old police personnel attempted suicide, allegedly due to work pressure, in Egmore on Monday.

Sridhar, the head constable attached to the Marina police station and living in Nariankadu police quarters in Egmore for past one year, was married to Neela and has three children.


On Monday evening, his wife broke open his room’s door with the help of neighbours as he did not come out for a long time. When they went inside, Sridhar was hanging from the ceiling.


He was immediately brought down from the noose and was rushed to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for treatment. Doctors said he could be rescued as he was brought to the hospital immediately after he hanged. He is said to be undergoing treatment and recovering well.


The Egmore police had registered a case and further inquiry is on.


Similarly, on Sunday, another sub-inspector attached to the Sathangadu police station was admitted to a hospital after he consumed poison as his parents forced him to marry. S Ravi (28), a native of Pernampet near Chidambaram, is out of danger, said the police. Ravi, who stays with his parents in Kaladipet police quarters, consumed pesticide mixed with water, the police said.
