VCK cadre block road, seek arrest of PMK men

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi cadre on Friday staged a road block near Anna statue in Jayankondam demanding the arrest of the PMK men, who vandalised the houses of Dalits following a clash in Ariyalur.

Sources said that on the day of polling on Thursday, a group of VCK cadre attacked a PMK party worker for breaking an earthen pot, the symbol allotted to VCK chief and party’s candidate for Chidambaram Lok Sabha constituency Thol Thirumavalavan. Infuriated by the attack, PMK cadre stormed into a Dalit residential colony in Ponparappi and ransacked around 20 houses and damaged vehicles. In the violence, around eight persons from both the sides and a TV journalist suffered injuries. All of them were admitted to various hospitals nearby. On Friday, hundreds of VCK men blocked the road near Anna statue in Jayankondam demanding the arrest of those PMK men who were involved in mob violence.


DSP Kennedy rushed to the spot and assured to initiate action, following which the VCK cadre dispersed from the spot. Also, police have decided to send a report on the incident to the government.
