Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers, Senthil Balaji claimed he was the frontrunner in the contest and would win with a huge margin.

“The electorate has expressed its support to me ever since I started my campaign. The huge response in Aravakurichi is a sign of the DMK coming to power and party chief M K Stalin becoming the Chief Minister once the results are out,” he said.

Listing out the poll promises to the people of Aravakurichi, Senthil Balaji claimed that several thousands of people were living in rented houses. “We will provide three cents land each to all the homeless families under the Thalapathi housing scheme. At least 25,000 families would thus benefit. They would be housed in a new residential area that would be named as Udhaya Suriyan Nagar,” he said.

Stating that he would address the drinking water woes of people in Paramathi and Aravakurichi areas, the DMK leader said, “When I was the minister, I initiated the Cauvery combined drinking water supply scheme for the welfare of the people. However, it was stalled in due course of time. I would certainly revive the project.”

He also promised to construct check dams and barrages at Pugalur and Amaravathi, a government arts and science college and ensure prompt payment of wages to the MGNREGA workers.

DMK’s bypoll in-charge for Aravakurichi segment, K Ponmudi said, “Senthil Balaji will win with the maximum margin secured by winning candidates among the 22 Assembly constituencies.”
