In addition, the government has established 42 Engineering Admissions Facilitation Centres (TFCs) to help those rural applicants and aspirants who do not have access to internet facility. The original certificate verification for all the applicants will be done at these TFCs. Accordingly, a booklet containing information about colleges would be given to the applicants to prepare their choice-list.
Speaking to DT Next, a senior official from the Higher Education department on Thursday said that TFCs would also screen videos demonstrating how to use the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) portal -- www.tneaonline.in -- during various stages of counselling. He said the TFCs would provide the required support and guidance to the applicants, besides extending internet-enabled facilities.
“Applicants can use TFCs to complete different stages like registration of applications, providing college preferences and the collection of allotment orders,” he said, while adding that TFCs will begin functioning after the TNEA schedule notification is out.
While stating that a merit list of eligible applicants will subsequently be prepared and published in the TNEA portal, he added a week’s time would be reserved for addressing applicants’ grievances after the publication of the list.
Pointing out that the last date of online registration will be May 31, the official said the applicants would then be grouped based on the merit list, and each group would be allowed into the counselling system, round-wise.
The official said special counselling for students, like for eminent sportspersons, the differently-abled, vocational and supplementary categories would be held in Chennai. “About 500 colleges will offer engineering seats this year,” he added.
