Cash seizure in election run up: Tamil Nadu stands first

According to the Election Commission, the total value of seized items from across the country was Rs. 3,100 crore as on April 24.

Suspect cash, illegal liquor and drugs, gold, freebees valued at over Rs. 3,100 crore have been seized from across the country since parliamentary election schedule was announced by the Election Commission.

Tamil Nadu recorded the maximum seizure of cash and gold at Rs. 214.95 crore and Rs 708.69 crore respectively. A recent seizure of 100 kg drugs off the Gujarat coast, worth an estimated Rs. 500 crore is the largest contributor to the tally of drugs and narcotics seizures against the total seizure amount of Rs 524.34 from drugs in the state.

The figures in other major states are Rs. 137.27 crore in Andhra Pradesh, followed by Rs. 48.68 crore in Maharashtra and Rs. 40.55 crore in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Election Commission, the total value of seized items from across the country was Rs. 3,100 crore as on April 24.

As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, a total amount of Rs 214.95 as cash, liquor worth Rs 3.54 crore, drugs and narcotics worth Rs 0.38 crore, gold and silver worth Rs 708.69, freebies worth Rs 8.13 were seized.
