Tirupur surprises with top spot in SSLC results
Yet another year and yet another tradition unbroken. Girls have outperformed the boys once again in the SSLC Tamil Nadu board exams, the results of which were declared on Monday.

The Tamil Nadu SSLC results were announced on Monday. The overall pass percentage this year was 95.2 %, slightly higher than previous year’s 94.5%. Of the total 9.98 lakh students who registered through schools, girls’ pass percentage was 97% and the boys’ was 93.3 %.
The pass percentage in Chennai was 94.18% . In the districts, highest pass percentage was recorded in Tirupur district (98.53%). Thiruvallur recorded the least percentage of 86.10 %. The pass percentage of government schools stood at 92.48 %. While government aided schools secured 94.53 %, matriculation schools got 99.05% and 6,100 schools achieved 100 % pass.
The Directorate of School Education (DSE) announced that it would do away with the practice of ranking students at the State and district levels on the basis of aggregate of marks secured. Similarly, they did not declare the students’ performance based on total marks like last year.
The authorities, in a circular, have warned private schools from advertising student’s marks to secure new admission. “Strict action will be taken against schools issuing advertisements based on SSLC scores,” the circular added.
Students, who wish to apply for re-totalling, can submit their applications immediately in their respective school. “Those who have failed could appear for the re-examination in June,” the circular said.
Accordingly, all the students who appeared for the exams, can view their results with analysis on www.tnresults.nic.in, www.dge1.tn.nic.in and ww.dge2.tn.nic.in. In addition, the authorities have also made arrangements to message (SMS) the results of the students to the parents/guardians.
Stating that the students could get the statement of marks at their respective schools, the official said, “Similarly, the candidates can also download their statement of marks in www.dge.tn.nic.in after submitting their date of birth and registration number.”
After the results declaration, the Tamil Nadu Education Department will conduct the after exam proceedings based on the schedule given above:
Dates for downloading mark sheets through schools: May 2, 2019
Dates for downloading mark sheets by logging into dge.tn.nic.in: May 6, 2019
Applying for retotalling through schools: May 2 to 4, 2019
Supplementary exam dates: June 14 to 22, 2019
According to an official notification, candidates should pay Rs. 305 for English and language papers while for other subjects, the fee is Rs. 205 per paper.
Prisoners create yet another record:
A senior prison officer on Monday said that 152 prisoners from different jails across the State had appeared for the SSLC examinations and 110 of them passed.
