A division bench comprising Justice S Manikumar and Justice Subramonium Prasad on perusing the report submitted by the Inspector, Thiruvennainallur Police that 24-hours surveillance by armed police on rotational basis has been deployed said, “It could be deduced that investigation is incomplete and that only eight of them have been given victim compensation out of 35 persons affected. Loss of property and assessment of damage alleged to have been suffered by the remaining is not clear.”
Based on this, the bench directed the Collector to examine the reports and disburse the victim compensation as expeditiously as possible to the persons affected. The bench then posted the case for further hearing to June 4.
Thirumoorthy belonging to the SC community in Madhavan Street and one Jayapradha belonging to Vanniyar Community and hailing from Anathur village, fell in love with each other. Amid opposition from the girl’s family, the couple registered their marriage onJanuary 7, 2019.
Thereafter, Jayapradha’s father forcefully moved her to Hosur. But on February 21, Jayarpadha on utilising her return to Anathur Village to attend a funeral, left with Thirumoorthy to lead their marital life. But on February 26, 2019 Jayapradha’s family with a mob of 200 persons entered Madhavan Street and attacked the residents. Thereafter a case was registered against the upper caste people as per the Atrocities Act and eight affected families alone were provided compensation. Challenging this, the plea was moved holding that spot inspection ought to have been conducted within seven days andrelief ought not to have beenrestricted to eight families.
