Whistler-blower hacked to death by sand mafia near T’malai SP office
A whistle-blower, who regularly alerted the district administration and the police, on illegal mining activities in and around Tiruvannamalai on several occasions was murdered reportedly by sand mafia in broad daylight near the Superintendent of Police’s (SP) office on Thursday afternoon.

In a swift follow-up action, police intensified vehicle checks across the district and arrested three persons near Cheyyar in connection with the murder. The trio confessed of having killed the whistle blower.
Police said, the whistle-blower was identified as Dinakaran (35), a car driver and son of Subramaniam of Kilipattu village near the town.
Dinakaran on Thursday afternoon was chased and hacked to death by three men near the district SP’s office. Soon after the crime, the trio fled the spot.
SP MR Sibi Chakravarthy along with senior police conducted an inspection at the crime scene and found a two-wheeler lying near the body. An eyewitness informed the police that the victim came on the two-wheeler and based on the registration number, the police identified the victim. Later police informed the victim’s family about the murder and a relative of Dinakaran identified the body.
Based on the SP’s order, Cheyyar police conducted intense vehicle checks during which they apprehended three persons near the court premises. All the three were brought to the SP’s office where they confessed to having killed Dinakaran. They told the police that they committed the murder to avenge the frequent alerts to officials by the whistle-blower on illegal sand mining activities.
The arrested were identified as Arun (35) and Arul (34), both of Cheyyar and Gopi (35) of Tiruvannamalai. A case has been registered and investigations are on.
