Addressing reporters at Chennai airport, Vaiko said, “Kamal Haasan registered a historical truth and he was not wrong in calling Nathuram Vinayak Godse a terrorist. Godse was a criminal and Kamal was right in registering his views.”

Kamal’s statement that a Hindu was the first terrorist of Independent India created various controversies. His statement was opposed by Hindu outfits but the Opposition parties in the state have supported him.

Vaiko said, “The effigy of Gandhi was shot and burnt by Hindu Mahasabha in Aligarh, in Uttar Pradesh and slogans supporting Godse were raised by them but Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath did not condemn them. There was no action on Hindu Mahasabha cadre who still were relishing the murder of Gandhiji but Kamal was targeted by Hindu outfits and he was beaten with slippers and eggs during his election rallies, which was highly condemnable and not healthy in politics.”

He also condemned the Election Commission by stating that the constitutional body is acting like a puppet of the BJP.

Meanwhile, in a statement here, MNM Puducherry unit president Dr MAS Subramanian said, some coward activists of certain parties, who could not understand the historical truth stated by Kamal that Nathuram Godse who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi is the first terrorist of Independent India, indulged in such activities. The fact that they threw chappal and eggs at Kamal clearly shows that they are cowards and dare not to have a straight confrontation, he said.

He also said that abusing Kamal using vulgar language for stating a historical truth need to be condemned and added that the people will teach a fitting lesson to the government which failed to initiate action against such persons. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi out of apprehension that the vote bank of the BJP may slide stated that there is no Hindu terrorism in India, he added.
