Couple duped of money attempt suicide in Theni

However, police personnel deputed on the premises foiled their bid. The rescued couple were identified as Mohan (65) and Annathai (62), residents of Allinagaram in Theni district. Sources said they were native of Kerala and had settled down in Theni after disposing of their assets. The couple intended to buy lands in Theni to set up a special school for mentally retarded children and gave a sum of Rs 42 lakh to two persons, identified as Ganesan of Bodi and Murthy of Genguvarpatti. But even after two years, the couple said they could neither buy the required land nor recover the money paid to the duo. Even after taking up the issue with the police, the couple said no action was taken against the accused. Upset over this, they attempted suicide.
