Speaking to reporters during a press meet convened exclusively to detail his defeat in Theni, Elangovan said, “I did not lose because of people not voting for me. It is a manufactured defeat. Money and muscle power have prevented my victory.”

“The Election Commission gave special preference to Theni where Panneerselvam’s son was the candidate and engaged in malpractices. I have some evidence related to their malpractices. The Commission has not manifestly clarified why 100 EVMs were sent from Coimbatore and Tiruvallur to Theni,” he alleged.

“Modi was determined to somehow make OPS son win. I would not say the situation changed after Panneerselvam met Modi in Varanasi. Malpractices started even before that,” he added, threatening to move the court against Raveendranath Kumar’s victory and malpractices of the Commission.

Asked if he did not count on the victory achieved by other DMK-Congress front candidates, the former TNCC president said, “Modi has a special affection for Panneerselvam’s son, more than what he has for his party members in Tamil Nadu. Hence, they indulged in malpractices there. If they indulge in malpractices everywhere, they would get caught. So, they targeted Theni alone to ensure OPS son’s victory,” Elangovan alleged.
