“Karnataka should have released 19.5 TMC of Cauvery water between December and May. Why Tamil Nadu government did not insist on the full quantum of a backlog of Cauvery water?” wondered MDMK general secretary Vaiko in a statement.
“We cannot accept the lies of the Karnataka government that their dams are empty. Even this year, Tamil Nadu government is not in a position to release Cauvery water from Mettur dam on June 12 for Kuruvai cultivation. In order to save Kuruvai crops and to meet drinking water requirements, the state government should take steps to get our share of 19.5 TMC of water,” he said. TN Farmers Association general secretary P Shanmugham said as per the CWMA order, Karnataka should immediately release two TMC of water for the month of May and 9.2 TMC for June without any further delay.
