Arunachalam to head unit for crimes against women, kids
Two months after the creation of special unit to handle crimes against women and children, (CWC) the Home Department on Thursday appointed as many as 28 additional superintendents of police / additional deputy commissioners to head units in districts and commissionerates. As many 13 other posts of ADSP/ ADC, which are vacant as of now, has been also redeployed to CWC.

Under each ADSP/ ADC, there will be anti-human trafficking unit, anti-child traffic unit, special juvenile police unit, child welfare police officer, all women police station and investigative units for crime against women.
State-wise, the new unit would be functioning under Additional Director General of Police Su Arunachalam. At least 4 superintendents of police and 2 deputy commissioners of police are also expected to be posted in the new unit.All all-women police stations and special units such as anti-human and child trafficking units, investigative units of crime against women (IUCAW), special juvenile police units and child welfare police unit will come under the newly created special unit. Also, crime against women, including female foeticide, infanticide, molestation, rape, honour killing, domestic violence, abuse of domestic helps, prostitution and trafficking of women and others will be investigated by the new wing and crime against children such as kidnap, child sexual abuse, pornography, child labour and related issues of juvenile crimes, street children and missing children will fall under the unit’s purview.
