Ready for bigger stir than 1965: Vaiko

Recalling former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s assurance that Hindi would not be imposed, Vaiko said that commitment was now being flouted.

“If the government proceeds with its plan to impose Hindi, there will be a much larger protest even bigger than the anti-Hindi agitation witnessed in 1965,” he warned.

Meanwhile, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder-president Kamal Haasan on Saturday said language should not be imposed on people.

“I have acted in Hindi films. Indians are living happily respecting each other languages. Nothing should be imposed on others. Those interested can learn language of their choice,” he said.

In a veiled reference to the growing unemployment rate in the country, Kamal said, “It is not that one would get a job only if they learn Hindi. At present, they would not get a job at all.”
