Vaiko, in a statement, said, “In the recent advertisement for TET, state government had not included Tamil scholars who had completed B.Lit as eligible candidates for writing the exam. Due to the advertisement, 40,000 candidates who have completed B.Lit could not apply for the exam and state government should immediately withdraw the notification.”
Vaiko also said that students who studied B.Lit for three years and six months of subsequent training on Tamil scholarship were employed in government schools, from 1987. However, from 2009 former DMK supremo M Karunanidhi when he was the chief minister of the state, he inducted the Tamil scholars as teachers from Class 6.
“Due to Karunanidhi’s move, thousands of Tamil scholars were given government jobs and B.Lit was treated on par with Bachelor of Oriental Literature and the six months training was treated on par with B.Ed. In 2012, when TET was made mandatory, Tamil scholars were eligible to write the exam, but a recent change in 2019 did not include them and neglected them,” said Vaiko. The affected candidates have approached the High Court for remedy and so the state cabinet should meet immediately and should take a positive decision on the issue, demanded Vaiko.
