TNPCB seeks support to fight pollution
The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board had urged the public to support the board in their efforts to combat pollution in the state on the occasion of World Environment Day.

In a statement, TNPCB claimed that pollution levels in Tamil Nadu is quite low when compared with Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Elaborating on the steps taken to control pollution of vehicles, the release stated that the Tamil Nadu Government and the Pollution Control Board has taken steps to permit the registration of the vehicles which only has the Bharat-IV engine.
Besides, diesel which has 1 per cent benzene is only being used in the vehicles. Three hundred and seventy pollution checking centers have been setup across the state, and among them 70 is located in Chennai, the TNPCB stated. According to them, Environment-friendly LPG filling stations are located in 30 places in Chennai and all of them are active while currently, there is no provision for using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) available in Chennai since there is no proper place for it.
The government and pollution control board held many awareness programmes and as a result of them, the pollution during the Bhogi and the Diwali festivals were low in 2018 when compared with previous records.
