Extreme heat kills 4 senior citizens from Kovai aboard Kerala Express in UP
Four elderly pilgrims from Tamil Nadu travelling on a train from Agra to Coimbatore in non-AC coaches of the Kerala Express died due to extreme heat at Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. The deceased were part of a 68-member group on a religious tour. They had reached Agra from Varanasi, and from there, they were going to Coimbatore.

They complained of uneasiness and by the time, the train reached Jhansi, three of them died. One of the pilgrims died in a hospital, officials said.
Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh has been experiencing severe heat wave in the recent weeks. It recorded a high of 48 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Two of the deceased were identified as Subbaiya, 88, a retired tahsildar and his relative Balakrishnan, 68, a retired staff from the district education office in The Nilgiris. Both hailed from Ottupattarai near Coonoor in The Nilgiris. Two others were identified as Dhanalakshmi, 74, from Uppilipalayam in Singanallur and Pachaiya, 80, from Udumalpet in Tirupur district.
A press statement issued by the North Central Railways and shared by the Salem Division of the Southern Railways said that on receiving information that some elderly passengers had fallen unconscious in the train, the team of railway doctors and medical personnel attended to the passengers, even before the train reached Jhansi. But, by then three passengers had already dead, and the condition of the fourth, who died later, was serious.
“Their bodies were handed over to the Government Railway Police for legal proceedings. Post-mortem report is still awaited to ascertain the cause of death.Efforts were being taken to send the bodies to their hometown on Tuesday,” added the release.
Meanwhile, several parts of the country continued to reelunder sweltering heat on Tuesday, with mercury crossing the45-degree mark.
