Director Pa Ranjith has appealed for an anticipatory bail in the Madurai bench of Madras High court.
The Kaala-director delivered a speech in Thanjavur's Thirupanandal. He made a vitriolic remark against the Chola emperor RajaRaja Cholan, who he claimed to have plundered Dalit lands.
The Hindu Makkal Katchi had filed a complaint against him at the Thirupanandal police station. The director came in defense of himself saying that he has been a voice for land rights of the oppressed and it is in that vein he made that statement and not intended to hurt any community.
He further griped that his words were contorted out of context and that he only seconded what social activists have been saying over the years. He said that he quoted from the book 'Sentamil Naatu Cherigal' penned by TM Mani.
