Reprieve for former Mayor in SIDCO case

Justice G K Illanthiraiyan before whom the anticipatory bail plea moved by both Subramaniam and his wife Kanchana came up for hearing on Wednesday recorded the submission made by the defacto complainant S Parthiban as well as the police not to grant anticipatory bail before adjourning the plea to June 18. However, the judge directed not to arrest Subramanian and his wife until such time.

According to the prosecution, SIDCO had allotted the said land to one S K Kannan and as per a GO, the property can be assigned only to the legal heirs of the allottee. But while the legal heir certificate had not mentioned the name of Kanchana, the assignment was fabricated to show her as the daughter of the original allottee and the property grabbed. The original building was demolished and ground plus three floors constructed without obtaining any planning permission. Based on this, the prosecution insisted on the case requiring custodial interrogation of both the persons.

However, Subramanian in his plea for anticipatory bail submitted that the defacto complainant was a rival independent candidate who contested along with him during the 2016 general elections and polled a meagre 87 votes.

While the complainant’s election petition on similar grounds of filing false details regards the said property was duly dismissed, the present private complaint has been done to tarnish his image.

He also submitted thatvalid documents to establish that they were in lawful possession of the property was present and SIDCO has issued letter of recognition regards the property.
