To boost industry exposure ITIs to get latest machinery

For equipping students with the latest industrial technology, Tamil Nadu government has decided to install new types of machinery and equipment for advanced trades at all state-owned Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) for imparting practical training.

At present, there are 20 government Industrial Training Institutes functioning across the state for imparting practical training in different trades for the candidates.


Training wing of Department of Employment and Training is functioning with the aim to develop skilled work force through diversified courses to meet the requirement of industries and to equip employment skills in the students through a large number of courses in different trades in the State.


A senior official from the Directorate of Employment and Training said that about 30 new machineries would be procured as per the requirements of advance trade.


“Latest milling machines including universal type, high-tech drilling machine pillars, foreign-made pedestal and surface grinding machines, which are all used to teach the students about the latest industrial requirements, will be procured,” he added.


He said that at present about 28,000 trainees are undergoing training in all Government ITIs. In addition, he said that the government would also procure equipment like muffle furnace, the machine in which the subject material is isolated from the fuel, Rockwell hardness testing machines and multimedia- based simulator for CNC technology.


The official pointed out that in recent times, most of the companies, who come for placement drive in the campus, expect the candidates to have knowledge about the latest machineries and equipment that are relevant to the industry needs.


“Taking consideration of this fact, the government has decided to purchase new machineries not only for the placement but also improve the admission on par with the private institutions,” he claimed. He said the new measure will also help the state apprenticeship training programme forthe students.
