Tamil reverberates as MPs from state take oath

While taking the oath, Kancheepuram DMK MP G Selvam said, “Let Tamil win.” He was followed by Congress MP Chellakumar from Krishnagiri who also hailed Tamil. Giant slayer Dharmapuri MP Dr Senthilkumar (DMK), who defeated PMK’s Anbumani Ramadoss, clad in a black shirt typical of the Periyarists, wound up his oath, saying, “Let Dravidam win (Dravidam vellatum)”.

Writer and VCK general secretary D Ravikumar hailed Tamil and B R Ambedkar, after greeting the treasury benches in the first row. His party leader and Chidambaram MP Thol Thirumavalavan also praised Periyar and Ambedkar before proclaiming, “Let democracyand equality win.”

MDMK’s Ganeshamoorthy, who won on the DMK symbol stole the thunder, by saying, “Tamil Nadu is my motherland. I will safeguardits rights.”

Thoothukudi MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and Karur Congress MP Jothimani’s “hail Tamil, hail Periyar” and “let Motherland flourish” kept the BJP MPs interested. The saffron brigade responded with “Jai Shree Ram” and “BharatMata Ki Jai”.

A rare moment of support from the BJP MPs came for CPI’s K Subbarayan (Tirupur) and AIADMK’s O P Ravindranath Kumar who said, “Long live secularism, Long live India” and “Vande Matram, Jai Hind” respectively.

The sole AIADMK voice in the Lok Sabha was civil enough to shake hands with Dayanidhi Maran, who, only a moment earlier, hailed, “Tamil, Kalaignar and Periyar.” True to their principle, Left MPs hailed Marxism and appealed for unity of workers across the world after invoking Tamil. There were a few prudent MPs like Gowtham Sigamani, TRVS Ramesh and CN Annadurai who expressed their gratitude to their leaders Karunanidhi and Stalin in the House.

DMK MP (Pollachi) P Shanmugasundaram who punched in the air after proclaiming “hail Tamil” thrice made pro-term speaker Virendra Kumar remind his secretary that whatever is available in the statement of oath will only go on record.
