In the recently submitted memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami demanded an exemption from NEET for the State. “In order to safeguard the interest of the students and the policy of the TN government in admission to medical/dental courses, the State opposes the introduction of NEET in any form. Hence, I request the Prime Minister not to continue NEET in Tamil Nadu alone by giving a special exemption,” stated Palaniswami in the memorandum submitted to Modi.
However, AIADMK, before the election, did not seek complete exemption for the state from NEET. The party had earlier stated, “AIADMK will urge the government of India to exempt Tamil Nadu students from NEET examination for medical courses till they reach the standard and knowledge of the improved new syllabus.”
The State Assembly had also passed a resolution to seekexemption from NEET and the resolution was sent to thePresident. But there was no action and under the circumstance, the State government has once again demanded full exemption.
