A resolution was passed in this regard during an party meeting, which was convened to discuss the local body elections and chaired by TNCC State President K S Alagiri.
The meeting, which was attended by All India Congress Committee secretaries, working committee members of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) and other senior leaders, also discussed the party’s recent loss in the Lok Sabha elections at the national level. The TNCC, its first resolution, urged Rahul Gandhi to continue as AICC president.
On the drinking water crisis prevailing in Tamil Nadu, the party held the State government responsible for failing to implement any concrete project to resolve the issue during the last 10 years.
“Despite criticism from the Madras High Court about the State not having a water management scheme, the government has still not realised the seriousness,” another resolution stated.
Claiming that a total of 21 districts were facing a severe drinking water problem, it said, “there has been no concrete steps to mitigate the sufferings of the people. However, Velumani has claimed that the government had spent more than Rs 15,000 crore for drinking water projects in the State.”
“It (AIADMK government) has failed to take steps to resolve the drinking water crisis and therefore, Velumani should resign owing responsibility,” the resolution said.
Opposing the draft New Education Policy (NEP), the party accused the Union government of imposing Hindi on the people, who do not know the language. “It looks like the Centre is trying to keep education under its control,” another resolution said.
