In the opening ceremony of Nemmeli desalination project, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami stated that the Tamil Nadu government will not accept any proposal that will affect the state.

He claimed that the government is taking serious action to implement the sea water desalination project in Perur, which will generate 400 million litres of drinking water per day.

He stated that the government is also planning to implement desalination projects in other drought affected coastal districts and studies are underway to establish suitable areas where desalination plants can be implemented.

He added, “Projects that are favourable to Tamil Nadu will only be accepted. Ground water level could not be raised due to the lack of rainfall.”

He informed that the Nemmeli desalination project will be completed by 2021 to distribute water to the city.
