Condolences mark Day 1, session ends in seven minutes

The first day of Tamil Nadu Assembly session on Friday ended in just seven minutes after condolence resolutions were passed for the late MLAs.

As soon as the session commenced at 10 am, Speaker P Dhanapal started reading out the names of the MLAs who died between February 15 and June 27, and passed the condolence resolutions.


The list of deceased MLAs included two MLAs of the current assembly and eight former MLAs. The two current MLAs who died were Sulur MLA R Kanagaraj and Vikravandi MLA K Rathamani.


The list of former MLAs includes M Sundaradas, K Panjavarnam, A Subramaniam, N Selvaraj, AKC Sundaravel, M Ramanahtan, P Munusamy and S Sivasubramanian.


When the condolence resolution was passed individually for all the deceased MLAs, the members of the assembly stood in silence for two minutes following which Dhanapal announced the adjournment of session. All the events were completed in just seven minutes.


The second day of the ongoing session would start on Monday at 10 am, in which the demand on grants of Environment and Forest Department would be taken up. Assembly sources said that as far as the no-confidence motion on Speaker is concerned it will be known only on Monday but DMK had dropped its plan of voting against Speaker.


On the first day of Assembly session, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran, Kangeyam MLA U Thaniyarasu, Thiruvadanai MLA Karunas, and Nagapattinam MLA Thameemun Ansari, were absent.
