A team of officials entered the house of Thirunavukarasu, who was part of the gang which exploited young women, at around 8 am. After inquiring his father Kanagaraj and mother, the officials left his house at Makkinampatty in Pollachi around 1pm.
After a young college girl blew the lid off, the Pollachi rural police arrested five persons; Thirunavukarasu, Sabarirajan, Sathish, Vasantha Kumar and Manivannan. They sexually exploited the girls, videographed the act and extorted money. Later on, five others including ‘bar’ Nagaraj, an AIADMK local functionary, were arrested for assaulting the brother of the victim.
The Pollachi sex scandal turned out to be a key poll issue during the Lok Sabha campaign with opposition parties demanding a detailed and unbiased probe to arrest all those who exploited young women. The CBI took over the case from CBCID police in April.
Meanwhile, the judicial custody of the five persons was extended by a court in Coimbatore till 15 July through a video conference on Monday.
The accused persons, who were lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison, have been shifted to Salem Central Prison over securityconcerns.
