Doctor tackles water during crisis using RWH

Revealing this to DT Next, he says, “As the borewell failed, I decided to harvest rainwater. My biggest help came through books and internet. I designed the filters and laid the pipes. The system has been functioning without a hitch for more than four years now.”
Elaborating about his project, Subramani said he built a 60,000 litres capacity sump below the car park and connected the pipes that directed water to the sump. “I have enough rainwater that meets all my needs. This is used for cooking, drinking and bathing while the borewell is used for the toilet,” he adds. Not only that, the doctor also has a roof garden where the plants are watered from the accumulated rainwater. He mounted solar panels on the terrace that connects to the state grid. Asked about EB deductions for excess power, he says,“I have not paid any electricity bill for the last ten months because my power dues are deducted from the power supplied to TANGEDCO as my system generates up to 700 units per month.”
