Vellore polls: House session to end by July 20
Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal on Friday announced in the House that the ongoing session would end on July 20, nearly 10 days earlier than the previous schedule of July 30.

The Speaker held a meeting with Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on the sidelines of the Assembly session in the afternoon and according to sources in the Secretariat, the decision to end the session prematurely was taken due to the Lok Sabha election in Vellore constituency scheduled on August 5.
The Election Commission (EC) on Thursday announced the poll schedule for Vellore Lok Sabha constituency and after it there were doubts on the minds of MLAs about the Assembly session as there will be no time left for campaigning in Vellore constituency.
A revised schedule was prepared in the meeting to address the issue and the Speaker read the revised schedule in the Assembly. The Assembly session timings were also extended and sessions would also be conducted on a Saturday.
According to the announcement, there will be two sessions on a single day from Monday and several departments demand on grants would be combined. The morning session would commence at 10 am and will go on till 2 pm and the evening session will commence by 4 pm and will go on till the time decided by the Speaker.
Among the departments, the demand on grants of the Home Department, which was earlier scheduled for two days have been combined for a single day and the demand on grants of all the departments held by Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, will be held on a single day, which is on July 20, the last day of the session.
