Health Minister C Vijaybaskar also told the Assembly that the nativity certificates were being verified manually and students would be granted seats only based on specified nativity norms under State quota.

This year the State received a total number of 39,013 applications and after scrutinising all the certificates, the selection committee found that 3,616 students were not eligible for admissions.

Claiming that the opposition party has been alleging disparities in the MBBS admissions, which was not true, the minister informed the assembly that the educational qualification, birth, community and nativity certificates were obtained from all the students and subjected to thorough verification. The selection committee exercised maximum care to ensure that there were no discrepancies in the verification process. The state government has got these medical seats after a lot of struggle and hence, the State would take all possible steps to ensure that only eligible students were given seats under State quota, the health minister added.

According to selection committee officials, 31,383 applications were found eligible after scrutiny of 39,013 forms. On Tuesday, two students were denied seats as both failed to meet the nativity eligibility, while two others were absent.

The selection committee has appointed an expert panel to ensure that norms were followed and the certificates of every student, their parents, caste certificate, ration card and self-declared affidavit were properly verified.

Students will have to fill and submit a self-declaration form given by the selection panel stating that if any of the certificates were found to be fake, criminal action could be initiated against them.

The declaration form further mentions that if a false nativity certificate was submitted, the student would be terminated from the course. It also states that if any student was found to have submitted dual nativity certificate, it leads to natural disqualification.

Denying any error in the admission procedure, the health minister said that issues regarding nativity certificate was making rounds in the state as TN accounted for maximum number of medical seats in the country.
