The central team led by the Additional Secretary Pramod Kumar which conducted a study on the ground water level in Thanjavur district wondered on seeing the old structures that were constructed during the Chola Dynasty for having a special concern over the water management. When the team visited the Ayyankulam and inspected the structure, the corporation workers explained the team that it was made during the Chola dynasty and the inlet and excess water drains that were made by those rulers were still maintained in the district. Soon, the team members stepped into the waterbody and inspected its structure.

After inspection, Pramod Kumar lauded the structure for its prompt method and said that these were the real wealth that the past rulers have left for the people. “We need to maintain it and that is the respect we give to them,” he said and explained that the inlet and outlets were extraordinarily designed.

He also said that if desilting work is carried out promptly to the waterbody, it would save the pond that would certainly irrigate the land. He also said that proper water management in the past resulted in the greatest success in the field of agriculture. He also asked the district administration to maintain the waterbodies made by the past rulers and that would certainly help in tackling the water issues, he said. The district Collector A Annadurai, Corporation Commissioner Janaki Ravindran and others were present.
