While 30 candidates had filed nominations till Wednesday, Thursday saw another 15 candidates filing nominations bringing the total to 50. NTK (Naam Tamilar Katchi) representative Deepalakshmi, NDA candidate AC Shanmugam and a few independents filed more than one nominations.

Chellapandian of TN Tipplers Awareness Association came to file his nomination with a garland of guavas and mangalsutras around his neck. He told those present that eating guavas with liquor would ensure that the body was not affected and ensure the longevity of their husbands – the reason for his having mangalsutras around his neck.

However, with the AMMK and Makkal Needhi Maiam keeping away, it appears to be a straight fight between the Dravidian majors. Seeman’s party is the only other known political entity in the fray.
