When it was pointed out that the government was continuing to announce various welfare schemes, he said they were meant only for self-publicity as they would never be implemented.

Interacting with reporters, he said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami was always happy because the loan was on the government and not on himself. A special Assembly sitting should be held with regard to implementation of various schemes, he added.

On NEET, he said it was a social and not a political issue. The present state board syllabus was ill equipped to help student handle NEET he said and added that Congress was against NEET as there was no need for a third exam (after SSLC and plus two) to quiz students.

Condemns Vasan

On the Subramania Swamy – Vaiko spat, he said the former was a broker. Referring to TMC leader GK Vasan’s statement that Rahul Gandhi had gone missing after the poll debacle, Alagiri said he condemned the statement as Vasan was a leader who ran a party to get a Rajya Sabha seat and who had done nothing to help Congress grow when he was at the helm of affairs for 10 years.
