Though initially two water specials were planned for the parched city, the late arrival of the second 50-tanker rake from Kota in Rajasthan delayed the proposed second trip. The first water special was initially planned to begin supply to Chennai from July 10 but had to be postponed by two days. Following the second rake arriving at the Jolarpet yard, water loading which started around 3 am on Tuesday, was completed in three hours with the help of 50 workers, sources said. The rake then left for Chennai around 9.40 am. The train takes about four hours to load the water, four hours to ferry to Chennai, and another four hours of unloading the commodity to Kilpauk Water Works in Chennai where it is pumped to the rest of the city. The Chennai Metro Water later in the day tweeted the arrival of the special train at Villivakkam in Chennai.
