“Andhra Pradesh government had constructed 21 check dams illegally across Palar and now it is planning to increase the height of the dams. It is against the interests of the farmers and the water sharing agreement. It is highly condemnable,” said Ramadoss, in a statement.
He also said that in Kankundhi village, in Chittoor district, the neighbouring state is planning to increase the height of the check dam from 22 to 40 feet and the works to increase the height of the dam is being carried out by the PWD officials of the state. The Andhra Pradesh government is also desilting the Palar river on their side to store more water.
He further said that AP government constructed check dam without obtaining permission and it was 7.5 feet when it was finished. In 2016, AP increased the height to 22 feet and now it is planning to increase the height by 40 feet. If it is true, farmers of Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts would be affected, said Ramadoss.
