HC pats DGP for ‘gift’ circular to subordinates

The Madurai bench of Madras High Court has placed its appreciation for state DGP for issuing a circulars on ‘receipt of gift by police official‘ based on the court order issued on July 2, this year and also another circular based on court order on ‘collection of mamool’ issued on June 6 .

Justice S M Subramaniam, Madurai bench of Madras High Court in his order said that the court thought fit that appreciation is to be placed on record in view of the fact that, the Director General of Police has swiftly implemented the orders passed by the court considering the importance of the directions issued.


DGP J K Tripathy in his order dated July 12 had asked his officers not to receive gift worth more than Rs 200 and not to receive and give dowry.


The other circular issued by DGP on July 18 was based on order from the court to give instructions for the purpose of improving the efficiency in controlling the mamool collections in police stations as well as in public locations and acceptance of freebie by the police officials from restaurants, market places, vegetable shops, fish market, mutton stall, chicken stall etc.
