In a statement, Mutharasan said that the BJP released the draft National Education Policy a day after coming to power for the successive term. “The draft policy was released only in Hindi and English and a 51-page concise document was released in other state languages,” he said.

The draft which seeks to enforce Hindi and corporatisation of the education system was being opposed tooth and nail by the educationists and students’ organisation, he said, adding that however, the Centre, has been holding public hearing secretly without bringing it to the notice of the student’s groups and professors and educationists.

AISF, the CPI’s students’ wing held a protest against the draft education policy on Thursday, he said, adding that when the students of the Presidency College tried to hold one such protest on Thursday, the college principal and professors threatened the students by bringing in police. “AISF leader Babu Prasad who went to organise the protest was attacked by the principal,” he said.

Pointing out that the functioning of the student’s movement was guaranteed in the Constitution, he said the students have all the rights to express their views on the education policy. He said that higher education department should initiate action against the college principal for the attack on the student’s leader.
