Bedi reviews tourism projects on two beaches in Pondy

Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi on Saturday dedicated her 226th morning weekend round to review the tourism development projects at two beaches in Dubrayapet and Arikkanmedu.


She was accompanied with a team from Raj Nivas. A press release from Raj Nivas said that the Central government has sanctioned Rs 70 crore to Puducherry Tourism department to develop the beach tourism under the ‘Swadeshi Bharath Darshan’ scheme.


Accordingly seven beaches in Puducherry were identified to promote the beach tourism at Kalapet, Dubrayapet, Arikkanmedu, Chinnaveerampatinam, Chunnambaar, Manapet and Narambai.


Bedi visited Dubrayapet and Arikkanmedu projects on Saturday which are nearing completion among the seven projects.


During the visit, she found some shortcomings in the project development and directed to create certain additional facilities for the tourists. Apart from planting saplings, the Lt. Governor also reviewed the progress and made several suggestions which include the need for a proper compound management planning including solar lighting, rain water harvesting, waste water treatment, beach sanitation and landscaping along with inherent parking plan.
