1,500 lambs sacrificed at Kutti Kudi festival
As many as 1,500 lambs were scarified in the Kutti Kudi (tasting the blood of lambs) in view of the annual festival of Kuzhumayee Amman temple in Puthur, Tiruchy, on Thursday.

Kutti Kudi Thiruvizha is only one of its kind in the locality where the temple priest tastes the blood of hundreds of goats on behalf of the God.
The ritual of tasting the blood of lambs used to draw thousands of devotees into the temple premises where the devotees across Tiruchy and its neighboring districts converge and get the blessings of the Goddess Kuzhumayee Amman through the Marulali (Priest) who represents the village God Ondi Karuppu and get the sacrifice of the lambs.
According to the HR and CE officials, hundreds of lambs are sacrificed every year in the Tamil month of Masi by devotees from various communities to get the blessings Goddess Kuzhumayee Amman during the ‘Kutti Kudi’ festival in the temple. The festival is celebrated in the span of four days. The lambs are sacrificed on the third day of the festival. Devotees throng the temple premises with the lambs they had reared to offer to the goddess.
Temple priest Sivakumar, who adorned himself as Marulali, was carried by two devotees on their shoulders and accepted the ‘offering’ by tasting the blood of the goats which is followed by giving counselling to the devotees. As a customary practice, the kuttikudithal commenced after offering of lambs by HR and CE department.
