After inspecting the ongoing electrification works, John told mediapersons at Thanjavur Railway Station that the entire electrification works across the region have almost beencompleted.
The remaining works on Mayiladuthurai-Thanjavur section are still underway and were told to be complete by the month of July, he said. “Once the electrification works are completed, the speed of the train would be stepped up,” he added. Similarly, the Tiruvarur-Karaikal electrification works would be completed by this month-end while the appointment of gate keepers for Thiruthuraipoondi- Karaikudi section would be done soon, he said. The loco speed would be increased thereafter and the number of services in the section would also be increased, he added.
On Thanjavur MP SS Palanimanickam’s plea to increase services in the main line, AC shuttle service between Tiruchy and Thanjavur and additional compartments in the Chozhan Express, he said he would recommend for these services.
