Murugan’s choice likely to quell factional feuds in state BJP
A low profile in state politics, alienation from factional feud and solid contacts with saffron leaders in Delhi had helped 42-year-old L Murugan to out shadow the key contenders from the state BJP unit for the post of state BJP president.

According to informed party sources, the choice to appoint Murugan was based on the recommendation of a senior union minister and BJP national president JP Nadda. The general perception among the BJP top brass was that the appointment of Murugan will reduce the factional feud within the BJP contenders.
The names of party seniors like Pon Radhakrishnan, H Raja, Nainar Nagendran, CP Radhakrishnan, Vanathi Srinivasan and KT Raghavan made rounds and it became difficult to pick a person among the existing lot. “Further the perception among the BJP Delhi netas is that the TN BJP leaders in the state did very little in the past six years, despite the national party being in power.
There is no josh and celebration at Kamalalayam till now. The local workers are disappointed,” said a BJP worker. “Not only to the BJP, even to the AIADMK which is an ally of the BJP this is a surprise. We thought the BJP top brass will pick someone who is popular so that the new president can help the AIADK with muscle and money,” said an AIADMK MLA wishing not to be named stating the political development is an internal issue of the BJP.
“The low profile among the party functionaries and addressing the issues of minorities had been the strength of the new president. Further the party has given a young leader who can stretch across the state mending the BJP factions,” said BJP state treasurer SR Sekhar.

By roping in a Dalit leader, the party has proved that BJP is party that is beyond caste equations and our new leader will bring in more support,” said state secretary Karu Nagarajan, who is now gearing up to host a grand reception for the new president.
