It is said, Tamilarasi (26), wife of Chandra Bose (30) of Pilaviduthi near Karambakudi had labour pain on Monday and she was rushed to the PHC at Ragunathapuram near Pilaviduthi. Around 4.15 pm, Tamilarasi delivered a baby girl. But, she suffered severe bleeding after delivery. Since the bleeding did not stop even after 6.15 pm, the doctor who treated her advised Chandra Bose to take her to the Thanjavur Medical College. Soon she was rushed to the medical college. However, Tamilarasi died on the way to the hospital owing to excess bleeding.

On Tuesday, the family members and the other relatives rushed to the PHC to stage a besiege protest. But the PHC was closed, so her kin blocked traffic at Ragunathapuram bazaar. They claimed that the lethargic attitude of the doctor and the nurses had claimed the life of Tamilarasi.

On information, Karambakudi Taluk Medical Officer Dr Venkateswaran, Karambakudi Tahsildhar Shiek Abdullah and the Ragunathapuram police held talks with the agitating family members. Upon assurance of action against the doctor and the nurses, they dispersed.
