These persons would remain under observation at the centre set up at the Kallikudi Central Market for Vegetables, Fruits and Flowers till the results of the test of their blood samples come.

There is a special team that is screening all passengers who arrive at the international airport before allowing them outside. In the early hours of Thursday, flights from Sharjah with 150 passengers and Singapore with 175 passengers landed here.

When the passengers were screened using thermal scanning, the team found that 27 passengers from both flights had symptoms like cough and high temperature. Soon, they were isolated from the rest of the passengers and were taken to the quarantine zone at Kallikudi on a special bus.

They were kept under observation and their blood samples were sent for detailed testing. They would be allowed to go home only after ensuring that they did not have coronavirus infection, official sources said.

Meanwhile, 28 persons belonging to the Narikurava community from Tiruverumbur in Tiruchy, who had gone to Kerala for their livelihood, returned on Wednesday night. As Kerala has the second highest number of positive cases in the country, the medical officials led by taluk medical officer Dr Sukumar screened them. The officials have instructed them to remain in home quarantine for 14 days, and also directed them to contact the medical team if they develop any symptom in the coming days.

Nine persons, including a medical student, have already been admitted to the isolation ward in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchy after showing symptoms of coronavirus infection.
