The police used drones to capture images of villagers brewing arrack before cracking down upon them with evidence. Acting on a tip off that illicit arrack is being prepared in the forest areas in Kalvarayan Hills, the district police used a drone to track the activity on Monday.
Upon confirmation, five special teams of police, zeroed down on the spot and seized about 315 liters of arrack. A few persons have been arrested and further inquiries are on to crack down the entire network.
“As Tasmac shops remain closed due to the ongoing lock down, the villagers have begun to manufacture illicit arrack. Before reaching the spot, we recorded the act with a drone, so that the culprits do not escape,” said a cop. The seized illicit arrack was then destroyed by the police.
Police said that they have mounted vigil to curb manufacture and sale of illicit arrack mainly in the rural areas. “In these rural areas, people have started to manufacture arrack even in their houses. We have mounted vigil and more crackdowns will follow in the coming days,” said a cop.
