Marriage row: Bro burns alive diffabled man

A differently abled man was reportedly burnt alive by his elder brother for insisting the family to marry him off in Pudukkottai on Friday.

V Kalaiyarasan (26), a speech and hearing impaired person from Arasarkulam near Aranthangi was assisting his father Varadharajan in agriculture. His elder brother V Shanmugasundaram (32) got married and the couple are living as a joint family.

S Since, Kalaiyarasan was diffabled, the family members were said to be least bothered about his marriage. But, they arranged the marriage of his younger brother Ilavarasan (24), who was employed in Singapore.

On hearing it, Kalaiyarasan picked up a quarrel with the family members and demanded to marry him off. However, the family members ignored it. He then raised the issue with his relatives as well, causing embarrassment to the family.

His elder brother Shanmugasundaram reportedly tied Kalaiyarasan to a pole and threatened to burn him for being troublesome. Despite being tied, Kalaiyarasan insisted upon his marriage being performed, and even started furiously attacking those who wentnear to pacify him. Losing his temper Shanmugasundaram poured kerosene and set him on fire.

Kalaiyarasan sustained 80 per cent burns and was rushed to Aranthangi GH. He was then referred to Pudukkottai Medical College where he succumbed to his injuries. Police registered a case and arrested Shanmugasundaram.
