The deceased boy, Pavanesh, a class three student from a government school, had gone missing while playing with friends near his residence at Sottakavundampalayam in Uthukuli area.
His parents, Thangaraj and Sumathi, both working in a textile firm had gone to work leaving their two sons, Pavanesh and his ten-year-old brother at home. As schools remained closed due to COVID-19, the siblings had stayed in their residence.
The couple returned home and found their younger son missing. Following a futile search in the neighbourhood for a long time, Thangaraj lodged a missing complaint at Uthukuli police station.
On Friday morning, a group of villagers who were grazing their cattle, found the body of the boy along the banks of a pond in Pallakavundampalayam. On receiving this information, the Uthukuli Superintendent of Police Disha Mittal arrived and examined the scene of crime. A sniffer dog was pressed into service and forensic experts gathered evidence at the spot.
The body was then taken to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for a post mortem. Seven teams of police have been formed to nab the culprits. Meanwhile police have secured a couple on suspicion that they might have killed the boy after he saw them together. Further investigations are on.
