Balaraman is the second leader after former Chennai (west) district secretary J Anbazhagan who died on June 10 to succumb to the infection.

Expressing shock at the demise of one of his frontline soldiers on the field in Chennai, DMK president MK Stalin said that Balaraman was one of the key functionaries, who had worked tremendously on field to ensure the victory of former party president Karunanidhi and general secretary Anbazhagan in Harbour constituency. Though he has died, his work and sacrifice would never be forgotten, Stalin remarked, in his condolence message released by the party headquarters on Sunday.

It may be recalled that Anbazhagan breathed his last at a private hospital in the city on June 10.
