With 1,380 cases, city records over half of Tamil Nadu tally

A total of 2,516 cases of COVID-19 were reported on Tuesday of which 2,478 in TN tested positive while the rest arrived from other States/countries. While Chennai recorded 1,380 cases, several districts continued to maintain the tally in double digits.

On Tuesday, Madurai continued to record high number of cases with 137 more testing positive while Chengalpattu reported 146 and Tiruvallur reported 156 cases. A total of 110 cases of COVID-19 were reported in Tiruvannamalai district too while

Kancheepuram, Kallakurichi, Thoothukudi, Theni, Ranipet, Tiruchy and Vellore also reported fresh cases.

The toll in TN reached 833 as 39 more deaths were reported on Tuesday. While 11 were reported in private hospitals, the remaining were from government hospitals. Of the 39, 36 had underlying co-morbid conditions, while three did not have underlying health issues, but died after developing COVID pneumonia, according to a bulletin. A total of 1,227 more individuals were discharged from hospitals after treatment and at present, there are 28,428 active cases after 35,339 people recovered in TN.
