Thanjavur traders resolve to close shops by 4 pm
Traders in Thanjavur district volunteered to close their outlets early to control the surge of COVID-19 infection in the district. The Collector too ordered to reduce the working hours for Tasmac shops in the district to contain the spread.

According to the traders, the number of cases have been increasing in the district day by day for the past 10 days and the traders themselves convened a meeting and decided to close their establishment early at 4 pm everyday till the month end.
Accordingly, the shops and other commercial establishments would function from 6 am to 4 pm.
The decision was later informed to the District Collector and the traders urged the Collector to restrict functioning hours of the Tasmac outlets also.
Lauding the traders’ sense of responsibility, Collector M Govinda Rao ordered that the Tasmac outlets too would close by 4 pm till the month end to curb virus spread in the region.
Meanwhile, in Pattukkottai town, the traders declared complete shutdown till July 26 and in Peravurani till July 31 as a matter of self-restriction to control the pandemic.
The traders from rural parts of the district are also in the process of closing the shops early on par with the traders of the urban areas.
